Silkmore
is ideally located being close to London - 45 minutes by train, just 6 miles north of
the historic town of Guildford and its many attractions. Three National Trust
Houses are all within a few miles; Clandon Park, Hatchlands House and Polesden Lacey as well as RHS Wisley
Gardens. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are 30 minutes’ drive.
Silkmore
boutique style Bed and Breakfast is a pretty Grade 11 listed house dating back
to 1650. Formerly the village smokehouse, it has been beautifully restored as a
comfortable, friendly family home. The house has great charm retaining many
original features, set in large gardens down a quiet lane in West Horsley
village overlooking the magnificent Surrey open countryside and within a few
minutes’ walk to two traditional English pubs.
The bedrooms are light and airy, stylishly decorated with wonderful
views of the gardens and unspoilt English countryside beyond.
We
serve delicious traditional Full English or Continental breakfasts using a
variety of local and home made produce. If you would like to treat yourself to
Afternoon Tea with homemade cakes and scones, please let me know at the time of
booking as everything is freshly made.
House
& Rooms
We have three beautifully
decorated Guest Bedrooms for you to choose from - the
Elysian room with double bed and private bathroom, the Botanical Print room
with twin beds and private bathroom. Both rooms look out onto the
garden and fields beyond..(An additional guest bed for
a child is available upon request – cost £15/night) and the Wysteria
room with double bed and en-suite bathroom which
looks onto the formal front garden. (An additional guest bed for a child is available upon request – cost
£15/night)
The bedrooms have recently been
redecorated with style and comfort in mind, furnished with hand
made painted furniture by award-winning furniture company Leporello.
Each room has a colour
television, radio, alarm clock, tea and coffee making facilities hairdryer,
shaving adaptor plug.
The modern bathrooms are fitted
with a bath and electric power shower, built in hand basin and loo.
Breakfast
is served in the dining room from 7.15am-8.30am weekdays and from 7.30-9.30am
at the weekends (other times by arrangement)
Choose from a selection of seasonal fruits,
cereals, yoghurts and juices, breads and croissants or treat yourself to a full
English Breakfast .
Where possible we choose locally produced ingredients
and serve home made marmalades and jams. Please let us know of any
dietary requirements in advance so that we can meet your needs.
A choice of home made sandwiches, cakes, biscuits
and cream teas are available – please reserve at the time of booking – prices
upon request.
We have table and chairs available for guests to
relax in the gardens and a ping pong table for the more active!
Guests may check in after 5.00pm and before 10.00pm. Arrangements can be made if you would like to
check in earlier. We ask guests to kindly vacate their rooms by 10.30am the
following morning.

The original house dates back to 1650 and as such
has low ceilings and narrow doorways. Unfortunately wheelchair access is not possible, however, for those guests requiring some
assistance, we are more than happy to help. The staircase is not steep and the
steps are evenly spaced. The bedrooms are at the rear of the house and have high
ceilings.
We enjoy having guests to stay and your comfort is
our priority. If you have any special requirements
please do not hesitate to mention
them at the time of booking so that we can try and meet your needs.

West Horsley is a traditional English country village offering peace and
tranquillity and yet within easy access of London and Guildford. There are a
couple of pubs within a few minutes’ walk from Silkmore, a childrens’
playground, public tennis courts, a post office and general store and a Church
famed as the resting place for Sir Walter Raleigh. It is an ideal spot for keen
walkers and cyclists. East Horsley is a couple of miles away and has a range of
shops, a library with internet access, banks, Railway Station ‘ Horsley’
together with a range of restaurants offering Italian, Indian and Chinese food
and a take away service. Horse riding, tennis and golf facilities.
From
the M25, exit at Junction 9 onto A3 southbound Guildford/Portsmouth direction.
Take
first Exit off the A3, south to Ripley. Ripley village turn left into Rose
Lane. Proceed approximately 2 miles. T-Junction, left, pass William IV pub,
within 0.25miles pass Village Hall, bear left into Silkmore Lane, house is on
the left on a left hand bend.
From
Horsley Railway Station turn right, then first left into East Lane
After
1.5 miles having passed the Barley Mow Pub, turn right at Village Hall into
Silkmore Lane, house is on the left hand bend, on the left hand side.
Horsley Railway Station is based in East Horsley, with direct trains to
London (45mins), Guildford (10mins) and Portsmouth (60mins)

High
street/castle, river, Guildford book festival – living statue/cafes
Guildford
is an attractive sophisticated town on a river surrounded by the Surrey Hills.
It has two theatres; The Yvonne Arnaud and the Electric Theatre, a castle
(Lewis Caroll lived in a house nearby) a cathedral, a
museum and art galleries, an excellent range of shops, restaurants, bistros and
cafes, a market, cinema complex, and a large modern leisure centre with
swimming pools, ice rink and bowling.
Guildford
hosts several festivals and events and is a really enjoyable town to visit.
